From January to March 2011 Relate and Derbyshire Friend are working together to provide any Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender person who works or lives in Derby the opportunity to access the Relate Family Counselling Service for free. This service can be provided at a safe and confidential space either at Derbyshire Friend or at the Relate Office on Friar Gate. This service can normally cost up to £50 per session. All Relate counsellors have had specialist training in LGB and T awareness.
Family Counselling is appropriate for any group of people who consider themselves as a ‘family’. It can also include relationships with extended family such as grandparents, aunts, uncles etc.
DF & Relate will be offering this service on Friday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
You can find out more details about what exactly Family Counselling is either on the attached leaflet or on www.relatederby.org.uk.
So if you feel that you might benefit from an opportunity to discuss issues such as problems in communication with any family members (either around your sexuality/coming out or more general issues) or perhaps disagreements with siblings on how to support aging parents or relating to your partner’s children or any other similar issue please contact Oonagh Mckay on firstname.lastname@example.org. Oonagh will arrange an initial assessment appointment for you with the Relate counsellor. This appointment will help decide whether this service is the right one for you. If it is not appropriate then the counsellor will do her best to signpost to other possible services.
As with all counselling through Relate this service is completely confidential.
Relate offer various forms of counselling separate to this offer such as sex or relationship counselling. See the website for more details by clicking here
