Our Derby based Golden Rainbows group is a friendship and social support group for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans and are over 50, facilitated by members of Derbyshire LGBT+ staff.
The Golden Rainbows Research Project conducted by Derbyshire LGBT+ looked at the experiences of 50+ LGBT+ people in Derbyshire, particularly those in rural areas. The results of this project told us that there were many over 50 LGBT+ people who would benefit with a social support group for them which would reduce isolation and loneliness.
We meet on the second Wednesday of the month 1-3pm. Our meetings may consist of an activity, we could have a guest speaker, a film, do a quiz or enjoy a games afternoon. The group decides its own programme, and Derbyshire LGBT+ will endavour to help create a programme that is of interest to the entire group.
There is also Munch and Mingle on the fourth Wednesday of the month 1-3, which is a lunch club for all 50+ LGBT+.
If you would like to know more about the group, would like to come to a meeting, or want to know the programme details for the next few meetings, please get in touch with Derbyshire LGBT+.
We also have a number of other Golden Rainbows groups around the county- check out their pages for more information.
