Our friendship and support group for 50+ gay, bisexual and trans* men.
We began in 2011, when our founder, Harry approached Age UK looking for a support and friendship group for gay men. He contacted Derbyshire LGBT+ and was invited to join Reach Out, our weekly men’s group. Harry wasn’t comfortable coming out on the evening and crossing the city, so with the support of Age UK and Derbyshire LGBT+, Harry set up Outreach 50+ at the 50+ centre, Eagle Market, Derby. In May 2015, Outreach 50+ was renamed Omi Polari, which in Polari means ‘men talking’. ON 31st March 2016, the 50+ Centre closed down, so we now meet at Derbyshire LGBT+, 7 Bramble Street, Derby DE1 1HU.
We meet on the second Wednesday of the month 1-3pm. Our first meeting of the month is usually an activity, we could have a guest speaker, a film, do a quiz or enjoy a games afternoon. The group decides its own programme. We can meet on other occasions when we go out for lunch, visit a garden centre, go out for an evening to the opera or join another group, such as Reach Out.
There is also Munch and Mingle on the fourth Wednesday of the month 1-3, which is a lunch club for all 50+ LGBT+.
If you would like to know more about the group, would like to come to a meeting, or want to know the programme details for the next few meetings, please get in touch with Derbyshire LGBT+.
