What a lovely afternoon to be at Derby City Council for the annual IDAHOBIT flag raising yesterday. The event arranged by Anne Webster, Lead on Equality and Diversity at Derby City Council, enabled Councillor Paul Pegg, Mayor of Derby to raise the flag to show that Derby City Council had an awareness of Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and showed their support in reducing the hate crime some people in our community experience every day. The commitment to supporting the LGBT+ community was reiterated by Gordon Stirling, the Chair of the Derby City Council LGBT Network and City Champion. Also in attendance was Hardyal Dhindsa, the new Police and Crime Commissioner, who highlighted his Pledge and Charter for the LGBT community, (see the Charter here, http://www.eastmidslabour.org.uk/labour_backs_lgbt_police_and_crime_charter). The event was attended by the Derbyshire LGBT+ team and many members of council staff and the tea and cakes were very nice!
