Our Derby based Golden Rainbows group is a friendship and social support group for people who identify as gay, bisexual or trans and are over 50 and is facilitated by members of Derbyshire LGBT+ staff and volunteer team.
The Golden Rainbows Research Project conducted by Derbyshire LGBT+ looked at the experiences of LGBT+ people over 50 years old in Derbyshire, particularly those in rural areas. The results of this project told us that there were many LGBT+ people over 50 who would benefit with a social support group for them, which would reduce isolation and loneliness.
We meet on the second Wednesday of the month 1pm to 3pm. Our meetings may consist of an activity, we could have a guest speaker, a film, do a quiz or enjoy a games afternoon. The group decides its own programme, and Derbyshire LGBT+ will endavour to help create a programme that is of interest to the entire group.
There is also ‘Munch and Mingle’ on the fourth Wednesday of the month 1pm to 3pm, which is a bring and share lunch club for all 50+ LGBT+.
If you would like to know more about the group, or to come to a meeting, or want to know the programme details for the next few meetings, please get in touch with Derbyshire LGBT+.
We also have a number of other Golden Rainbows groups around the county – check out their pages for more information.
