Jayvien

Jayvien is queer, trans and pangender and an interdisciplinary early career researcher.

They are a Black-Pilipinx interdisciplinary scholar-activist, former research assistant, and poet. They earned their BA in Psychology, along with a minor in Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies from California State University, Long Beach. They focused their studies on sexual health and ameliorating health disparities among gender minorities. They have several years of experience as an early research scientist in biocultural anthropology, having worked with National Institutes of Health-funded laboratory, Dr. Zachary DuBois’ (formerly of CSULB, now University of Oregon) Biocultural Anthropology Working Group on the Transitioning Experience Study (trans men’s health). They have also worked with Dr. Stephanie Budge’s largest Trans Research Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They have co-authored several publications with many brilliant mentors. With one foot in academia and the other in my communities, they also creatively write about their experiences as an early career scientist/researcher in the general fields of psychology, biocultural anthropology, transgender health science, and communications. Their creative work is inspired by mentors Dr. Benjamin LeMaster (Arizona State), Dr. Diane Bartlow (CSUN), and instructor Yazmin Monét Watkins.They are currently doing their own research, embarking on creative projects, and volunteering prior to applying for PhD.
