Events & updates
Future events will be published here and on social media.
Do you want to support the LGBT+ community in Derby & Derbyshire? Could you help us develop the Our Stories collection so we can educate more people about our history.
Events
Launch Events - Thanks to everyone who attended our Launch Events in Derby and Chesterfield over recent weeks. We know we couldn’t reach all parts of the county but we are looking to organise an event in the Glossop / Hayfield / New Mills area or and / or event online.
Watch this space or in the meantime contact us if you would us to talk to your group.
We created a short PowerPoint for the Launch Events and have added a copy below.
The file is saved as PDF.
Updates
Organisational Archives
We’ve been trawling through our own organisational archives to find out what we had. You may have seen some of our research on our Facebook and Instagram pages. If you have any knowledge of the items you have seen on our social media we’d love to hear from you. It would help inform our understanding of places and objects.
We have collection of documents in our basement that need reviewing, cataloguing. Any help with that would be appreciated. Your must be ok with spiders - retrieving things from the basement!
Researching
One of our volunteers is searching through Derby Local Studies Library for images of the old pubs and clubs in Derby City Centre. They’re looking for images and references to the venues even if they only help a once a month ‘gay night’ or ‘women only’ space. We need someone to help us do the same in Chesterfield who can get to the Derbyshire Records Office in Matlock.
Connecting with other LGBT+ History Projects
We’ve been connecting with other LGBT+ history projects in other parts of the UK. We’re keen to understand some of the challenges they have faced during whilst undertaking their own project. We’re exploring how they have presented their history e.g., websites, podcasts, posters, exhibitions etc to help us plan how we present ours. There are some really interesting and innovative ways that history has been presented.
Training
The team have been on training with the Oral History Society in preparation for training the volunteers. Volunteer training dates will be shared with those who have registered to volunteer for the project. If you think you can give your time to support us please complete the volunteer form
